Time To Get With the Times

I've always wanted to have a fun way of talking to (and with) my students. Being an adult educator, we often have to deal with absences because of sickness, work, discouragement, feeling (or really being) broke, etc. One of the most common questions that is ever asked of me from a student who missed a class is, "Did I miss anything?" Of course you missed something - you missed a class. Now the real question you should be asking is, "Did I miss anything important?" Of course you missed something important - you missed a class :)

Since I'm a human and have feelings, I often go to school thinking that I'm playing to an audience. Whomever may be in the class that morning or evening is who I'll teach. I have a general idea of the handout that I want to give, but really I like to make the lesson up as I go. So it's possible that I could summarize all the testable material in an hour and a half or so, but each person learns at a different speed and I go with the flow. That's why I've incorporated questions on my tests that directly ask you if you were there for the "Such and Such" lesson. If you were, great, you get the marks. If not, then it won't cause you to fail, but I like to honour the people who were at the class.

My first attempt at posting a video is completed. It is a set of two lessons on basic measurement. Just go to consmath40s.com.

It's going to be fun staying in touch, so visit often.
